I was born Feilding and from my earliest days was privileged to be exposed to the Scriptures by loving and God-fearing parents. In the early 1960’s our family moved to Huntly in the Waikato where I completed my primary and secondary schooling. It was in the 1960’s that I became concerned that while my parents were believers, I was not sure that I too had eternal life. The Bible told me, “That if I should confess with my mouth, and believe in my heart that Jesus is Lord and living, I should be saved” (Romans 10:9). I trusted this promise and it brought great peace and assurance that Jesus Christ was now my Saviour.
I entered employment in the 1970’s as an engineering cadet with the Ministry of Work’s and Development and spent many days surveying and working on roads and projects in the Hamilton and Huntly areas. Then it was on to the University of Auckland and following graduation with a Bachelor of Engineering, I was transferred to Wellington and eventually Turangi in 1980 to work on the completion of the Rangipo Underground Power Station.
God was directing my life to the Turangi Evangelical Church where I was exposed to great regular expository Bible teaching. My Bible training has been in ‘the pews’ and as I began to help in Sunday School, youth and teaching ministries. Employment changed to the Taumarunui County Council and then Taupo District Council. God had been leading me in my vocational training such that it now enabled me to stay and serve Him in Turangi.
In 1992 though still in secular employment, I took on the pastoral and preaching ministries. Later that year I was blessed in marriage to Beverly. Together we have sought to minister and serve God in Turangi. The Lord redeployed me in 2011 as my secular employment ceased, but that then allowed me the time and energy to devote to the more ministry including a Bible studies programme in Tongariro Prison and assisting as an Assistant Chaplain when required.
