Scripture: 2 Timothy 2:8
“Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead,
the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel.”
You and I share something in common with Timothy - we are called to remember someone we have not seen. Remember – call to mind, think over – Remember Jesus Christ- as preached in my gospel, writes Paul, messenger Apostle of Jesus Christ. Remember Jesus – He is the heart of the Gospel and the one who is to be the object of our thinking.
Here are some things to think on about Jesus Christ.
Remember He is Risen: What He Has Done
To say Jesus is risen is to imply He also died.
“He died and rose again” (1 Corinthians 15:3)
“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Roman 10:9)
Remember what He has done! The resurrection of Jesus Christ is a defining issue of Christianity. It is a necessary confession of faith – our mouth confessing what our heart believes – that this Jesus is Lord and living.
No other man, no hero of history, or world religion claims a Saviour who died and rose again, yet over 500+ saw Jesus Christ risen (1 Cor 15:6).
The Gospel preached by Peter concerning Jesus Christ had 3 corroborating points:
a. God sent Him – Who He is
b. God was with Him – seen in His works by miracles, signs, and wonders.
c. God raised Him – What he did at the Cross . (Acts 10:36,28,39)
The gospel Paul preached was always, “this Jesus is risen” (Acts 13:30-31; 17:31 and, “that Christ must needs have suffered and risen again from the dead;
and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.” (Acts 17:2-3)
· Forgiveness was proclaimed in the name of a risen Saviour (Acts 13:38)
· Newness to live comes from a risen Saviour (Rom 6:4)
· His Divinity – is authenticated. His unique claims and unique workings, culminate in His resurrection, ascension and glorification (2 Tim 1:10).
The resurrection is the declaration of God’s approval (Rom 1:4). Jesus Christ completed the work necessary to satisfy a Holy God so that we can be declared right with God (Rom 4:25).
Remember Jesus Christ risen – death could not keep him in the grave, men could not limit the Lord Jesus, men cannot limit His word (2 Tim 1:9) and so remember Jesus - you are saved and serve a living Jesus, a living Saviour, a Living God.
